Transferring or modifying your domain name registration

The process of modifying your domain name record with Network Solutions (www.networksolutions.com) can sometimes be difficult. Modification can be accomplished in two ways: Electronically via the "Account Manager", or "Customer Service fax process".

Electronically via the Account Manager

This method is most common, and takes approximately 24-72 hours to fully complete the modification. To request a modification to your domain name record, visit the Network Solutions website (www.netsol.com), click "Account Manager", and supply your User ID and password to begin the process. If you have forgotten your User ID or password, and you are listed as a contact on the account, you can click on the link "Forgot User ID/Password?" to have them sent to the e-mail address provided at the time of registration.

Once you are logged in, you can now make any necessary modifications to your domain record. Most importantly you want to modify the Technical Contact, and Name Server Information with the information provided by Area 51, also available here ( Help - Area 51's DNS information). After you submit changes, provided all the above steps were completed correctly, Network Solutions advises that it could take 24-72 hours for the changes to take effect.

Customer Service fax process

When all else fails, this method may be used. Call Network Solutions Customer Service at 1-888-642-9675, where they can provide you with your User ID and assist you in correcting the contact information & password on file. They will provide you with a form that you must FAX back to Network Solutions to update the necessary information, which will require a signature and possibly a copy of your driver's license, depending on the type of account (details are provided on the form). Once they have processed the change of e-mail address and password, they will send you an e-mail advising that you can now log in to your account and make changes. Then you can proceed with the process above, modifying your domain "Electronically via the Account Manager".

Register.com has also made domain name modification simple by providing a web-based interface to assist you in the process. Go to www.register.com and click on "My Account", log in with your User Name and Password, and follow the links to modify the name servers of your domain name record. Again, you will need your login to modify the account online, otherwise you will need to contact register.com Customer Service at (800)899-9724.

• Domain modifications can take 24-72 hours to be fully functional.

• Reboot your computer if your domain still does not appear to be resolving correctly even after the modification wait period.

• For security purposes, the owner of the domain can only modify domain name records. For this reason, Area 51 is only able to provide limited assistance in modifying your domain name. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the customer to make sure that their domain name is correctly modified.
